CHRISTLIKE Character

WNY HSMA is a Christian organization that is dedicated to equipping and encouraging students to use their musical talents in ministry to others.

Below are the character qualities that WNY HSMA as an organization seeks to reinforce in students during rehearsals and in all contact with our students and member families.

Boldness - Confidence that what we have to say or do is true, right, and just. Hebrews 4:16 - "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."

Enthusiasm - Expressing joy in each task as we give it our best effort. Ecclesiastes 9:10 - "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might."

Consideration - Putting others’ needs ahead of our own. Philippians 2:3-4 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Honor – Exalting the Lord in all that we do in WNY HSMA. I Corinthians 10:31 – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Respect – Holding those in authority in high regard and being obedient to their direction (conductors, parents, adults, church leadership) and treating each other with high regard. I Peter 2:13, 17 – “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men . . . Show proper respect to everyone...”

Integrity - Being true and blameless through and through. Psalm 15:1-2 – “Lord . . . Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless, and who does what is right, who speaks the truth from his heart.”

Stewardship – Taking care of things in a trustworthy and dependable way and making wise use of the facilities we use, our instruments, our music, and all of our resources. Luke 16:10 – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is unfaithful with very little will be unfaithful with much.”

Truthfulness - Earning future trust by acting in a trustworthy manner. Ephesians 4:25 – “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor...”

Loyalty – Showing faithful devotion to Jesus Christ and demonstrating commitment to WNY HSMA and others in the organization. Proverbs 20:6 – “Many people claim to be loyal, but it is hard to find someone who can really be trusted.”

Initiative - Recognizing and doing what needs to be done before I am asked to do it. Genesis 24:17-19 – “The servant hurried to meet her and said, ‘Please give me a little water from your jar.’ ‘Drink, my lord,’ she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, ‘I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking.’”

Kindness - Delighting in contributing to the happiness of others. Ephesians 4:32 – “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Endurance
- Having the inward strength to withstand stress to accomplish God's best. Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
